The dove of peace is a powerful emblem of harmony, camaraderie, unity and sanctity. According to the biblical book Genesis, God's deep disappointment with humanity's transgressions prompted him to unleash a devastating flood that would wipe out all life on earth. However, he chose Noah and his family to survive, entrusting them with a crucial mission: to save a select group of animals from the impending disaster by bringing them onto an ark. As the ark floated majestically across the waters for over 150 days, Noah released pigeons into the unknown to scout out the flood's extent. When one dove returned, its beak grasping a delicate olive leaf, Noah knew that the waters were receding and a new era was dawning. From that moment forward, people around the world began to associate pigeons – and the leaves they carried – with peace and tranquility. In November 1950, Pablo Picasso created a stunning artwork in honor of the World Peace Conference held in Warsaw. His drawing featured a soaring pigeon clutching an olive branch, a poignant symbol of humanity's yearning for harmony. At that moment, the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda dubbed it "the dove of peace," cementing the pigeon's status as a universal emblem of peace and unity.
