The dove of harmony is a representation of serenity, camaraderie, unity and sanctity. According to the Bible's Genesis account, because God was thoroughly displeased with human transgressions, he resolved to annihilate everything on earth with the deluge, and only selected Noah and his family to remain on the planet. He commanded Noah to bring some animals (one male and one female) onto the ark to escape the flood catastrophe. Following the ark's prolonged floatation on the water for over 150 days, Noah released pigeons to explore the extent of the deluge. When the dove returned, an olive leaf was found in its beak, informing Noah that the flood had receded. Since then, people have symbolized serenity with pigeons (and olive leaves). In November 1950, during the World Peace Conference held in Warsaw, Picasso cheerfully drew a flying pigeon with an olive branch. At that time, the renowned Chilean poet Neruda referred to it as "the dove of harmony", thus establishing the pigeon as an official emblem of serenity.
