Douglas Hyperion Single-Stage-to-Orbit (SSTO) Spacecraft

Douglas Hyperion Single-Stage-to-Orbit (SSTO) Spacecraft

thingiverse

This model is based on engineer Philip Bono's 1967 Hyperion SSTO spacecraft concept for Douglas (later to be merged with McDonnell). The Hyperion would've sported a novel aerospike design with several small rocket nozzles surrounding a heat shield. It's launch method would've been to use a rocket-powered sled to ascend the side of a mountain until the spacecraft reached an altitude where its own engines could carry it to space. Enjoy!
