The largest variant of the Douglas DC-9 aircraft family, the DC-9-50 was also a military version for US armed forces. McDonnell Douglas Aircraft developed several follow-on variants as the MD-80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, with a final variant being the Boeing 717 after McDonnell Douglas was purchased by Boeing.
