The DC-9-50 was the largest variant within the Douglas DC-9 aircraft family. A military version, named C-9-50, was built for the US armed forces. Post-acquisition of Douglas Aircraft by McDonnell, several variants were developed as the MD-80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90. The MD series was later succeeded by the Boeing 717 after McDonnell Douglas was acquired by Boeing.
