Following Douglas' acquisition by McDonnell, several variants were developed as the MD-80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 series. Lastly, Boeing incorporated these features into their final variant, the Boeing 717, after purchasing McDonnell Douglas.
