Constructed near to scale, it is available in various formats. The Douglas DC-8 was a competitor of the 707 series, developed simultaneously with similar design and capabilities. Debuting in 1957, DC-8s had an excellent safety record, serving major airline routes until the late '70s. Many were later converted for freight use, continuing to fly well over 50 years post-development.
