Near-scale in design, it's available in multiple formats. As a rival of the 707 series, the Douglas DC-8 was developed concurrently and shared similar design aspects and capabilities. First flying in 1957, this iconic aircraft boasted a strong safety record and was widely used on primary airline routes until the late '70s. Many were later converted for freight use, with some still flying today - over five decades after their initial development.
