Constructed near to scale, it is available in various formats. The Douglas DC-8, a rival of the 707 series, was developed during the same period and shared similar design and capabilities. As one of the first practical intercontinental range jet airliners with larger capacity, the DC-8 was both historic and popular among airlines. Its maiden flight occurred in 1957, boasting a good safety record that extended its usage on main airline routes until the late 1970s.
