Constructed near to scale, it is available in several formats. As a rival of the 707 series, the Douglas DC-8 was developed simultaneously and boasted similar design and capabilities. One of the first jet airliners capable of intercontinental range and larger capacity, this aircraft was historically significant and popular among airlines. Its maiden flight occurred in 1957, and these planes had an impressive safety record, serving major airline routes until the late 1970s.
