Constructed near to scale, it's available in multiple formats. The Douglas DC-8, a competitor of the 707 series, was developed contemporaneously and shared similar design features and capabilities. It was one of the first jet airliners capable of intercontinental range and larger capacity; hence, it was significant and popular among airlines. The first DC-8 flight occurred in 1957, and these aircraft boasted a good safety record, serving major airline routes until the late '70s.
