Designed near to scale, it's available in multiple formats. The Douglas DC-8, a rival of the 707 series, co-developed at the same time, boasted similar design and capabilities. As one of the first practical intercontinental range jet airliners with larger capacity, the DC-8 made history and was widely used by airlines. Its first flight occurred in 1957, maintaining a good safety record until late in the 1970s when it was phased out from main airline routes.
