The model features fully textured materials and textures, animateable turbines, flaps, ailerons, rudder, elevators, and landing gear with hideable options for gear up flights. Built near scale, it is available in multiple formats and was a rival of the 707 series alongside being developed at the same time. Sharing similar design and capabilities, the Douglas DC-8 was one of the first practical jet airliners capable of intercontinental range and larger capacity. Historically significant and popular with airlines, it made its maiden flight in 1957 and enjoyed a good safety record until late in the 1970s when they were phased out of main airline routes.
