The Douglas DC-8, a rival of the Boeing 707 series, was developed simultaneously and boasted a similar design and capabilities. As one of the first jet airliners with intercontinental range and increased capacity, this aircraft was both historic and popular among airlines. Its first flight took place in 1957, and it remained in use on major airline routes until the late '70s. The DC-8 featured fully textured models with animateable components like turbines, flaps, ailerons, rudder, elevators, and landing gear that can be hidden for "gear up" flight.
