Built near to scale, it's available in various formats and was a rival of the 707 series. As one of the first practical jet airliners with intercontinental range and increased capacity, the Douglas DC-8 was historically significant and sought after by airlines. Its maiden flight took place in 1957, enjoyed a good safety record, and served major routes until the late '70s.
