Over 700 DC-6s were constructed, with many still in operation today for cargo, military, and wildfire control purposes. In the United States Air Force, it was known as the C-118 Liftmaster, while in the U.S. Navy (before 1962), it was designated R6D; after 1962, all Navy variants were also labeled as C-118.
