Over 700 DC-6s were manufactured, with many still in operation today serving cargo, military, and wildfire control purposes. In U.S. Air Force service, the DC-6 was designated C-118 Liftmaster, while in the United States Navy, it was labeled R6D until 1962, after which all naval variants were reclassified as C-118.
