The Douglas DC-6 is a piston-powered aircraft built between 1946 and 1958 by the Douglas Aircraft Company. Originally designed for military transport during World War II, it was later adapted for long-range commercial use post-war. Over 700 were constructed, with many still operational today in roles such as cargo, military, and wildfire control. In US Air Force service, the DC-6 was known as the C-118 Liftmaster; in the US Navy prior to 1962, it was designated R6D, after which all naval variants were also classified as C-118.
