Available in multiple formats and airline liveries, this Douglas DC-6 aircraft was initially designed as a military transport during World War II but later adapted for long-range commercial use. Over 700 were constructed, with many still operating today in various roles like cargo, military, and wildfire control. In US Air Force service, it was known as C-118 Liftmaster, while the US Navy designated it as R6D until 1962, post which all U.S. Navy variants were marked as C-118.
