The Douglas DC-6 is a piston-powered airliner and transport aircraft manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Company from 1946 to 1958. Initially designed as a military transport towards WWII's end, it was later adapted for the long-range commercial market postwar. Over 700 were built, with many still operational today in cargo, military, and wildfire control roles. Known as the C-118 Liftmaster in U.S. Air Force service and R6D in U.S. Navy service until 1962, all U.S. Navy variants were afterward designated as C-118.
