The Douglas DC-6 is a piston-powered airliner and transport aircraft manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company from 1946 to 1958. Initially designed as a military transport during World War II's final stages, it was later adapted for long-range commercial transportation post-war. Over 700 DC-6s were constructed, with many still in operation today for cargo, military, and wildfire control purposes. In the United States Air Force, the DC-6 was designated as the C-118 Liftmaster, while in the U.S. Navy, it was previously known as the R6D until 1962 when they all received the C-118 designation.
