The Douglas DC-6 is a piston-powered aircraft built by the Douglas Aircraft Company from 1946 to 1958. Initially designed as a military transport during World War II, it was later repurposed for the long-range commercial market post-war. Over 700 were produced, with many still operational today in roles such as cargo, military, and wildfire control. In US Air Force service, it was known as the C-118 Liftmaster, while in the Navy's fleet (until 1962), it bore the designation R6D. After this date, all U.S. Navy variants were also classified as the C-118.
