The Douglas DC-6 is a piston-powered aircraft manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company between 1946 and 1958. Initially designed as a military transport during World War II, it was later adapted for the long-range commercial market. More than 700 units were built, with many still in use today for cargo, military, and wildfire control purposes. In United States Air Force service, the DC-6 was known as the C-118 Liftmaster, while in U.S. Navy service before 1962, it was designated as R6D; after that year, all navy variants were also classified as C-118.
