The DC-4 aircraft, initially serving Eastern and United pre-WWII in 1939, faced maintenance complications and inefficiency for commercial use. However, with the US entry into WWII, its production was diverted for military purposes, resulting in 1100 C-54s and R5Ds. Post-war, 79 DC-4s were produced for airlines while many ex-military planes returned to civilian use. Featuring 40-80 passenger capacity, 227mph cruising speed, 4250-mile range, and 22300ft service ceiling, DC-4 remains in service till 2014.
