The Douglas C-47 Skytrain, also called Goonybird, Skytrooper, and Dakota, was based on the Civilian Douglas DC-3. Used extensively by Allies during WWII, it transported cargo, personnel, paratroopers, towed gliders, and performed logistical tasks. Capable of carrying 28 troops and crew, it featured Pratt & Whitney engines, retractable landing gear, and served every allied service. Still in use today, a turboprop conversion extends its lifespan.
