The Douglas C-47 Skytrain, or Goonybird/Skytrooper/Dakota, was a military variant of the DC-3. Widely used by Allies during WWII for cargo and personnel transportation, paratrooping, glider towing, and utilities. It carried up to 28 troops, plus crew, with retractable landing gear for rough field operations. Powered by Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp engines, these aircraft served every allied service; still in use today post-WWII conversion.
