The A-26 was a low-level attack aircraft with an internal bomb bay, boasting speed and reliability. The A-26B featured a "hard nose" with a navigator/gun loader in the forward cockpit, accompanied by a gunner in the rear. Eight machine guns adorned the nose of this model. In contrast, the A-26C had a clear nose and housed a navigator bombardier, while retaining the wing-mounted machine guns and strafing capabilities. After World War II, these aircraft continued to serve in the USAAF and eventually the USAF until 1948. During the Korean conflict, both the B-26B and C models saw heavy action. The A-26 later underwent a major upgrade to the A-26K, which saw active service during the Vietnam War in the 1960s. Additionally, the aircraft was sold to various nations for use in their air forces, some were repurposed for civil use or as firefighting water tankers, and others were preserved for display in museums or used as flying warbirds for public enjoyment.
