Key features include animated propellers, ailerons, elevators, flaps, inboard flaps, rudder, cowling flaps, landing gear retraction, and landing gear doors. Dating back to the early 1940s, the Douglas A-26B Invader was developed as a replacement for the A-20 bombers and Martin B-26. Designed as a low-level attack and bomber aircraft, the A-26 boasted 14 machine guns or combinations of machine guns and cannons, an internal bomb bay, and impressive speed and reliability. Produced in 1943, these aircraft saw extensive action during WWII. The A-26B models featured a 'hard nose' with a navigator/gun loader stationed in the forward cockpit, while the A-26C models had a clear nose and housed a navigator bombardier. Both variants were used for staffing, ground attack, and low to medium level bombing missions. After WWII, these aircraft remained in service with the USAAF and USAF, redesignated as B-26s in 1948. In the Korean conflict, the B-26B and C variants played an active role, while the A-26 underwent significant upgrades, including wing refinements, increased horsepower, external weapons storage, tip tanks, and redesignation as the A-26K. These improvements were crucial during the Vietnam conflict in the mid-1960s. The A-26 and B-26 models were exported to other nations for military use or repurposed as executive transports, firefighter water tankers, or museum exhibits.
