The Douglas A-26B Invader was developed by the Douglas Company as a replacement for the A-20 bombers and Martin B-26. Designed as a low-level attack and bomber platform, the A-26 featured 14 machine guns or combinations of machine guns and cannons, an internal bomb bay, and high-speed capabilities. Produced in 1943, these aircraft were heavily utilized during WWII and continued to serve in the USAAF and USAF postwar. Redesignated as B-26 in 1948, they played significant roles in the Korean conflict and later, the Vietnam War. The A-26 models saw service with various nations' air forces and were also repurposed for civil use or converted into executive transports, firefighter water tankers, and flying warbirds for public display.
