The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was an American single-seat attack aircraft designed at the end of World War II as a carrier-based torpedo bomber. Initially known as the AD-1, it was spared from retirement after the war due to its potential. Renamed the Skyraider, it entered service in the late 1940s and saw action in Korea and Vietnam with various military branches, including the USAF, US Marines, and US Navy. In the early 1960s, it was re-designated as the A-1 Skyraider, and its variants were renumbered. The last of these aircraft were retired in the 1990s.
