This sculpture can be found at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. Doug Hyde is the talented sculptor behind this piece. I was deeply moved by it and felt compelled to recreate it in 3D using advanced photogrammetry techniques. I'm passionate about preserving art and history in a digital format that brings these treasures to life. Signage at the Heard Museum reveals valuable information about this incredible work of art. The artist, Doug Hyde, is of Nez Perce/Assiniboine/Chippewa heritage, born in 1946. His masterpiece, "The Vigil - Mountains, Valleys, Mesas," was created in 1988 using Indiana Limestone as the primary material. This stunning piece was generously gifted to the Heard Museum by the Phoenix Gateway Center. Utilizing cutting-edge photogrammetry software, Meshroom, I was able to capture the intricate details of this sculpture with remarkable accuracy. The resulting 3D model underwent decimation in Blender, a process that refined its geometry while maintaining its aesthetic appeal. The finished product boasts an impressive face count of 216,219, a testament to the complexity and beauty of Doug Hyde's original creation.
