Double MOSFET mounting for Lerdge mosfets
thingiverse
Mounting two MOSFETs is an uncomplicated process that requires minimal tools and expertise. The simplest method involves using a metal bracket or a strip of copper to attach the MOSFETs directly to a heat sink or a PCB board. This approach ensures efficient heat dissipation, thereby extending the lifespan of the MOSFETs. To begin, identify two suitable mounting locations on your PCB board or heat sink that are adequately spaced and can accommodate the MOSFET packages. Clean these areas thoroughly with a brush or cotton swab to remove any dirt, oil, or other contaminants. Next, prepare the MOSFETs for installation by ensuring their leads are secure and free from damage. For TO-220 packaged MOSFETs, grasp the plastic tab on top of the package firmly between your thumb and index finger, while gently pulling the MOSFET away from the heat sink using your other hand. For TO-263 (DPAK) packages, locate the two notches on either side of the MOSFET's body. Hold the MOSFET with one hand, and use a pair of needle-nose pliers to grasp the notches. Gently bend the metal tabs on the heat sink towards you until they snap into place. Now that your MOSFETs are ready for mounting, apply a small amount of thermal interface material (TIM) to the top surface of the heat sink or PCB board. This will enhance heat transfer between the MOSFET and the heat sink, ensuring efficient cooling. With the TIM in place, carefully align one of the MOSFETs with its designated mounting location on the heat sink or PCB board. For TO-220 packages, press the MOSFET's plastic tab firmly onto the metal bracket until it snaps into place. For DPAK packages, ensure that the notches on either side of the body are securely seated within the corresponding slots on the heat sink. Once both MOSFETs are properly mounted and aligned, secure them in place using a small amount of thermal epoxy or adhesive. This will prevent any accidental movement or vibration that could compromise the integrity of your circuit. Finally, double-check that all connections between the MOSFETs and other components are secure and not subject to damage from heat expansion. Your MOSFET mounting process is now complete.
