Double Button Carbon Microphone

The local theater reached out with a request to 3D print a replica of a vintage 1920s microphone for their production of Guys and Dolls. To meet their deadline, I invested several hours in designing the piece, followed by another couple of hours refining it through post-processing, all within a span of four days. To ensure the design met their expectations, I created two base designs, each with a distinct feature. One has a longer stem with a cutout for the cord, much like a lamp, while the other is shorter without any cutouts. This print requires eight extension springs that aren't too stiff and some braided cord to mimic the electrical cable. In my opinion, the taller base piece looks more appealing, but during assembly, I made an error that resulted in shearing the stem of my taller base. The stem had a weak point due to filament grinding during printing, and I didn't have time to reprint it, which would've taken approximately 22 hours. As a result, the finished product displayed here uses the shorter base piece.
