Double Button Carbon Microphone
thingiverse
The local theatre approached me with an inquiry about 3D printing a fake microphone in the style of the 1920s for their production of Guys and Dolls. I dedicated several hours to designing it, followed by more time on post-processing, and managed to deliver the final product within four days. Initially, I was unsure if they required the cord tail on the base, so I created two distinct base designs. One is longer and features a cutout for the cord, much like a lamp. The other is shorter and doesn't have this feature. This print requires eight extension springs that are not overly stiff and a bit of braided cord to mimic the actual electrical cable. Personally, I believe the taller base piece looks more appealing, but during assembly, I made an error that resulted in shearing the stem on my taller base. This was exacerbated by a weak point caused by some filament grinding during printing, and with time constraints, I didn't have the luxury of spending another 22 hours reprinting. Consequently, the finished pictures here showcase the shorter base piece.
