DOTA 2 - Finblade

The Finblade from DOTA 2 Almost a meter long when fully assembled, I modeled this sword in 13 separate parts to recreate it in life-sized proportions using a 20cm x 20cm build plate. An additional 4 joining pins complete the weapon – The parts all feature mechanical fixings. Each piece slides, clips, and screws together, locking into place so you can print it and assemble everything – all without needing gluing or non-printed parts! Printing guns at home may not be possible, but this proves you're certainly able to print swords! (Well, replicas anyway!) The clip joints on the jewels in the hilt and on the end of the pommel allow you to pop them free. Prising the precious gems from your weapon and trading them for a deal wouldn't be considered lightly, but may be the only option when using the blade can't get you what you need! I was drawn to modeling this sword for its vicious-looking blade... that's different from any other. The curves, points, and teeth on this blade make it a deadly combination between a long sword, cutlass, machete, and saw. A ruthless combination of features makes it a versatile asset in any environment. The misshapen arrows jutting from the hilt serve as a warning to others, showing the remains of weapons claimed through victories in battle, melted down, and forged into one! No time was wasted on fine engravings or detailed insignias – tribal patterns down the blade instead serve as a distinctive reminder to anyone who's lived to see it more than once! I added battle-scarred defects to make the Finblade complete, telling its full story of violent history. Creating the weapon With minimal support required for printing the 4 arrows and inside the joints of the blade, the rest of the sword prints entirely support-free, requiring little time finishing once printed and ensuring good surface quality of the parts. Each section has been carefully hollowed out to remain strong while saving hugely on print time and filament used for an object of this size.
