Dopey Scan #1
thingiverse
In New York City, I purchased this item at Obscura Antiques because of my love for the Oddities TV show. I wanted a unique object to 3D scan and print on my MakerBot. This creepy, affordable find from the 1930s was a Walt Disney Dopey Dwarf from Snow White. Upon pulling the string, I discovered that its mouth still moved. To scan it, I used Spinscan, which now supports color textured scans. However, the dimensions are slightly off, resulting in squashed scans. Math can be challenging. Now, let's go shopping! To obtain a color OBJ from Spinscan's point cloud, after calculating vertex normals and running Poisson surface reconstruction in Meshlab, apply the Vertex Attribute Transfer filter from the PLY to the Poisson mesh. This will transfer the color property of the vertexes to the model texture.
