The Church of the Resurrection, also known as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, is located in the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City. This revered church holds two sacred sites according to tradition: the place where Jesus of Nazareth was crucified at Calvary or Golgotha and his empty tomb, where he is said to have been buried and resurrected. The site of Jesus's burial is enclosed by an 18th-century shrine known as the Aedicule or Edicule. At the church entrance stands a wooden door adorned with numerous inscriptions and symbols left behind by pilgrims throughout history.
