Door latch warning for temporary excursion
thingiverse
About three times a week, I like to leave my home and go for a quick jog around the neighborhood. It clears my mind, strengthens my body and my minimalist loincloth is a big hit with the ladies. The thing is... that's pretty much all I'm wearing. There are no pockets for keys or garage door openers so I usually end up leaving the front door unlocked behind me during this brief excursion. If there's ever a chance that a housemate awakes during this time and decides to stumble to the front door, they just might summon the temporary lucidity to twist the latch back to the locked state (and then head to the fridge for another beer and pass out a few moments later as I'm trying to climb in through the window or something). Housemates can be unpredictable. SO... I came up with this gadget. Just place it on the latch in the unlocked position on your way out, and your fellow home dwellers won't even touch it. It's shaped like a stop sign so they don't need to be able to read to comprehend its simple message of "don't lock out the loincloth guy!" Yeah. You get it. Fits latches that are within 15.9mm x 46mm If you found this useful, please share and check out my other submissions which are almost as varied as they are numerous: http://www.thingiverse.com/3E8/designs February 11th, 2016 update: I added another, larger version with jagged little edges because... (gosh darnit!) one of my housemates managed to still lock me out because his partially-numbed early-morning fingers couldn't feel the difference between the usual door latch and this thing. Lame... but a legitimate concern. I've addressed it with the larger 'stop sign'-looking version.
