Update: Files with 1-16 oversize (apologies to all sensible metric folks out there) Tolerances were too tight on the original version, so they were increased by 1/16 inch - allowing it to slip over a door after the door is painted and the routed area has more tolerance for poor stamping of the latch mechanism. Also, the guide walls had to be made taller as when my bit arrived, the bearing was further from the bottom of the cutter than expected. A quick and dirty modification of the original design resulted in two sides of the guide being reduced by 1/16 inch in thickness. Raised text denoting size was added - simply rub a white paint pen across letters to highlight them. Center points were also added to help with alignment, but the safe way is still to insert your latch, trace it and use that to align the jig. ------------------------------------------------ Original: A template was needed to rout out for latches on 1-3/8 inch interior doors. It was figured that would be a good first design project. This template is specific to a 1-3/8 inch interior door and, using a 1/2 inch diameter top-bearing mortise bit, will provide a recess for a standard 1 inch by 2-1/4 inch latch. Clamp it to the door, set your bit depth to fit your latch, don your safety gear, and make some dust. Not making an heirloom, so there are sharp corners and points everywhere - but that's okay because you're wearing safety glasses since you're gonna use the router, right? The print was made at a rough resolution of 0.28mm in PLA with 50mm speeds everywhere except top and bottom.
