Door Latch
thingiverse
I'm sharing a picture of a gate latch that my friend created over 30 years ago when he purchased his home. The design intrigued me, and I decided to recreate it just for the sake of doing so. It's an excellent opportunity to explore forces in engineering, and I've never seen a similar design before - this was actually the first time I'd encountered one like it. As I built the model and conducted some research, I discovered that this particular design has been adopted by the US Forest Service, albeit with dual-sided functionality and specific details tailored to their needs. You can find more information on this topic at https://www.fs.fed.us/t-d/pubs/htmlpubs/htm06232331/. I haven't decided what to do with my model yet, but it was an enjoyable build experience. I've created a working prototype, but I still need to upload the photos. If you choose to create one yourself, please share a picture of how you use it - I'd love to see your implementation. Thanks for taking a look at this post.
