Door Latch kids (double) safety

My toddler (1-year-old) was steadily closing in on mastering the art of releasing the downstairs door latch. I felt a sense of urgency, so one morning I rapidly conceptualized this dual-security mechanism for the door latch. While the design isn't terrible, it could definitely be improved. I was operating under time pressure at the moment. First and foremost, I need to ensure that the elastic component cannot be removed by my child. Secondly, having to push on my device to re-latch the door is becoming increasingly frustrating. Perhaps incorporating a pivoting feature or an entirely new system could allow the spring-loaded lock to stay out of the way when closing the latch. However, it's not a major issue yet. Hopefully, this can serve as a useful resource for someone else! I should note that I used a large elastic band initially, but the design was actually intended for smaller ones – I didn't have any on hand at the time. Additionally, I opted to use double-sided tape for mounting purposes. Printer Settings: Printer: Homemade (makerbot lookalike) Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 20% Notes: I recommend printing the lock with supports and as it is imported in CAD. I suggest printing the L-Gibs with supports as well. It's crucial to rotate the part so that it's vertical (the U-shape becomes visible when looking from above) and ensure that the two elastic posts are at the bottom, which will minimize support requirements. Post-Printing: Remove any remaining supports. That's all there is to it! How I Designed This I conceptualized this design on Dassault Systems CATIA V5-6 R2014.
