Doodle3D Tower
thingiverse
The Doodle3D tower, created for the 2013 Cinekid children's movie festival in Netherlands, was a collaborative project between Rick and the author. To make it interactive, they stacked 3D printers at an angle. Instead of printing on blue tape, they used paper sheets weighing 200 grams and glued or clamped them with paper clips. For instructions, participants were directed to laser cut the design and assemble it like an Ultimaker original. iPads were placed under the structure using rubber bands, and safety discs were attached to gear wheels. To enhance stability and keep children at a safe distance, the tower was fixed on fake grass. Electronics and chargers were hidden in the base, while power cords were concealed under the grass. A piece of wood and bolts secured the structure further. Safety measures included covering the hot end but maintaining visibility for educational purposes, and printing safety discs for feeder gear mechanisms.
