This Doodle3D tower was designed for a children's movie festival in the Netherlands during autumn 2013, called Cinekid. Rick from Doodle3D and I wanted to create an autonomous 3D print installation that kids could enjoy. To make it more exciting, we stacked the 3D printers at an angle while printing. We used paper sheets weighing 200 grams, which were simply glued with a glue stick on the platform or clamped with a paper clamp. The instructions were printed directly onto the sheets. The base of the tower features a sheet of fake grass to keep adults at a safe distance and allow kids to sit comfortably on the floor. All electronics and chargers are hidden inside the bottom, while the power cord is concealed under the artificial turf.To add extra stability, the tower can be secured to the carpet with an additional piece of wood and bolts - this step is optional. When working with children, there are two potential hazards associated with Ultimaker machines: the hot end and the feeder mechanism gears. You can cover the hot end, but then kids won't see how it operates, which reduces its fun factor. For the feeder gear, I designed a safety disc that prevents small fingers from getting caught between the gears.Instructions:- Cut out the design using a laser cutter and assemble it like an original Ultimaker.- Place the iPads under the wooden platform and secure them with rubber bands, similar to those used in tents.- Install the safety feeder gear wheel discs- Stand back and watch as kids (and adults) have a blast. For more information about my projects, visit: www.rooiejoris.nl,www.facebook.com/europerminutedesign,www.thingiverse.com/joris
