Donut Cinewhoop Prop Guards

Donut Cinewhoop Prop Guards

These prop guards are designed to provide essential safety features necessary for flying your Donut Cinewhoop indoors without obstructing airflow coming out of propellers. They do not significantly affect flight performance like regular ducts, making the quad feel like a normal un-ducted 3", with only a slight weight increase. Additionally, they save about 10 grams of weight compared to default guards and provide around a 10% efficiency boost. There are two versions available: a shorter one for 1306 motors, as seen in the pictures, and a taller one for 1408/1507 motors. The original version is hollowed out inside to save weight, but I have also added solid versions for those who want to experiment with infill patterns. Those models have "solid" in their file names. To use these guards, you will need the following extra parts: * 4 steel M2 20mm screws with button or socket cap heads * 4 steel M2 nuts Filament choice is crucial when printing these guards. Regular rubbery TPU does not work well, as they come out too soft. Rigid materials like PLA or PETG are also unsuitable - they are too fragile and prone to shattering in harder crashes. Instead, you need TPU with a Shore hardness of about 70D-80D. Nylon may also work, but I have not tried it. My personal choice is NinjaTek Armadillo, which is a TPU material with a Shore hardness of 75D. It is easy to print with and provides the right balance of flexibility and rigidity. The guard is symmetric, so it fits both left and right sides. To prevent slipping in impacts, you should place spacers (printed with the guard) on the frame standoffs over the guard. The rear spacers of 1306 guards can be replaced with low-profile RX antenna tube mounts (see below). The screw holes are printed shut with a one-layer "membrane" that allows printing them without supports. Simply pierce through them with an M2 screwdriver from the nut side before mounting. If you print these guards, please consider posting a make so I can see things I designed out in the wild. Check out other Donut Cinewhoop accessories I have made: * GoPro Session mount for Reelsteady Go * RX antenna tube mounts, which come with a 30-degree low-profile version that fits the guards perfectly.
