Donatello, commonly referred to as Don, Donny, or Donnie, is a fictional character and one of the main heroes of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics series and associated media. Co-creator Peter Laird has frequently expressed admiration for this Turtle. In Mirage/Image Comics, all four turtles are shown wearing red bandanas; however, in other adaptations, he wears a distinctive purple bandana. His go-to signature weapon is his highly effective bō staff. Throughout various forms of media, Donnie is consistently portrayed as the most intelligent and second-in-command of the four Turtles. As a natural polymath with an aptitude for science and technology, Donnie frequently communicates in technobabble that showcases his exceptional expertise. He was named after the renowned Italian sculptor Donatello.
