Donard Ogham Stone
sketchfab
Ogham script, an ancient form of writing, is prominently displayed on a stone monument situated in the heart of Donard, County Wicklow, Ireland. Native to Ireland, Ogham also appears in western Britain, particularly in Pembrokeshire. The origins and timeline of Ogham are subjects of ongoing scholarly debate, with estimates suggesting its use dates back to around 400 AD and persisted for approximately 500 years. The Ogham alphabet is composed of twenty characters formed by parallel strokes that intersect or touch a straight line, often at a corner. Most Ogham inscriptions reveal personal names. Standing 1.5 meters tall, the Donard Ogham stone has been relocated from nearby areas to its current position in the village green since 1995. Despite being worn and damaged, the inscription was deciphered as early as 1897 and reads "IAQINI KOI MAQI MUC …." A photograph of this monument was taken on April 13, 2016, while a model of it was created using Agisoft Photoscan (Standard) software version 1.2.5 on July 3, 2016.
