Argentine comics, also known as historietas, are one of the world's most prominent comic traditions and Latin America's leading tradition, thriving in its "Golden era" from the 1940s to the 1960s. Following this period, in 1970, Oscar Masotta summarized their contributions, developing distinct models for action comics (Oesterheld, Hugo Pratt), humor comics (Divito, Quino) and folkloric comics (Walter Ciocca), as well as highlighting four notable artists (José Luis Salinas, Arturo Pérez del Castillo, Hugo Pratt and Alberto Breccia).
