Dominion Rod (Segmented)
thingiverse
I took the model of the Dominion Rod made by Budward and split it up into pieces for easier printing and a modular build that would allow me to repair and replace parts more easily. The printer then also has the choice of color scheme of the individual parts. Built the rod for my son and his Halloween costume. He was after a wand, and I wanted to make something a little more fun. I hollowed out the top of the rod and set parts H and I with screw tops so that lights could be inserted into the top end. This also allows later customization, can swap out pieces and parts for upgrades. Debated about adding in a white globe to the very end to light up. The bolts come in two orientations. The standard vertical orientation will be easier to print and put into place. The drawback is the stresses on the bolt are parallel to the layer lines and make it easier to snap or fail. Printing the horizontal orientation puts the layers of the print perpendicular to the stresses on the bolt by the adjoining pieces. It should be stronger and more resistant to failure. I left a channel down the center of the horizontal bolt to insert a small length of filament to help align the halves when gluing and to allow space for the glue to be run. (I ended up using them without gluing at all and they are still more sturdy than the vertical orientation.) Supports needed for parts A, E, and G. E has given me the most trouble and tries hard to faint mid-print.
