A dolphin model crafted from a 3D scan of its vertebrae was developed at The Center for Anatomy and Human Identification at The University of Dundee. To propel themselves through the water, dolphins must move their bodies with greater flexibility due to the way they generate force using their dorsal and anterior movement. As a result, dolphins typically have around 65 vertebrae. In contrast to terrestrial mammals, the liquid environment makes gravity less intense, so dolphins' bone structure is lighter and features a smoother design since it doesn't need to withstand as much weight in water.
