Doll Potty
thingiverse
I wanted to create a mini toy potty as a teaching tool, but I was surprised to find no toy potties with removable cups like big ones have. I based my design loosely on the Summer Infant potty, working in Tinkercad without spending energy on curves. This design can also teach how to make an item that doesn't need any supports, like a little rectangle under the potty insert helps grip the cup to the buildplate. Project: Doll Potty/Designing For No Supports Project Name: Doll Potty Overview and Background: I made this potty because I couldn't find a ready-made potty with a removable cup. After designing the potty, I worked out several orientations for the cup until I found one that needs no support. The only reason the rectangle is there is to make it even easier to print (prints without it too). The final item can be used as a teaching tool for toddlers or for design students on support-free printing. Audiences: This would be good for kids 2-3 years old as a potty training aid, or for ages 10 and up as a design sample. Objectives: Toddlers can use this to learn not only about potty use but also how to empty out the potty once they're done. Older kids can see how to angle prints to reduce waste. Lesson/Activity: For toddlers, give them a doll or toy that can "pee" in the potty. Then show them how you pull out the cup, pour it out and clean it. For older kids, show them the final product and have them attempt to duplicate it. Inform them that it was printed without support, and they can do it too. Have them work out the print angle. Duration: For toddlers, this is a full day project. Older kids, about an hour. Preparation: For toddlers, prepare a toy that can "pee." For older kids, just print the potty. References: None Rubric and Assessment: For toddlers, they should get that this is an example of what they are supposed to do. For older kids, they should have a printable design for the potty. Handouts and Assets: None
